South Africa on verge of series win over West Indies

South Africa have edged closer to victory over West Indies on a rain-affected fourth day of the third and final Test in Cape Town.

The Windies built on their overnight total of 88-2 to reach 215, giving them a slender lead of 125. South Africa lost the wicket of Alvaro Petersen before the close of play, but a score of 9-1 has left them just 115 runs away from wrapping up the series.

With the opening two sessions of the day rained off, the tourists had Leon Johnson (44), Marlon Samuels (74) and Shivnarine Chanderpaul (50) to thank for boosting their total at the crease.

However, a lower-order collapse which saw two runs scored for the loss of four wickets meant that the Windies failed to give their opponents a competitive target.

South Africa's return to the crease started disappointingly when Petersen was dismissed for a duck, while Dean Elgar reached five not out before the close of play.
