The hosts endured a difficult morning session, losing three wickets to leave them on 102-3.

Alviro Petersen (27), Dean Elgar (28) and Faf du Plessis (duck) were all dismissed early on to put the Proteas in trouble.

However, De Villiers (85 not out) and Amla (79 not out) have guided South Africa towards a competitive score after taming the West Indies bowling attack.
