Imran Tahir 'racially abused' by cricket spectator

Imran Tahir claims that he was racially abused by a spectator during South Africa's victory over India in the fourth one-day international.

Cricket South Africa (CSA) is investigating allegations that leg-spinner Imran Tahir was racially abused by a spectator during the national team's victory over India in the fourth one-day international.

The 38-year-old reported the incident to ground staff at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg, who accompanied him while he identified the fan who was allegedly responsible.

CSA has issued a statement confirming that it is looking into the incident.

"Imran Tahir was verbally and racially abused by an unknown man," BBC Sport quotes the governing body as saying.

"Tahir reported the incident to the stadium security, and was subsequently accompanied by two security personnel to identify and to have the man ejected from the stadium."

CSA is reviewing footage which surfaced on social media, appearing to show Tahir confronting spectators in the stands, though making no physical contact with the fans involved.

Under the terms of International Cricket Council's (ICC) anti-racism code, spectators who engage in racist conduct face potential stadium bans and criminal prosecution.
