South Africa lose three wickets but extend lead to 290 over New Zealand at lunch

South Africa remain in control of the first Test against New Zealand, despite losing three wickets in the morning session of day two in Cape Town.

The hosts headed into lunch with a lead of 290 runs and four wickets remaining after continuing on from yesterday's dominant performance, which resulted in the dismissal of New Zealand for 45.

AB de Villiers remains at the crease on 61 with Robin Petersen alongside him but the hosts lost Alviro Petersen, who steered South Africa to a strong lead yesterday, for 106 this morning and Faf du Plessis shortly after for 15.

While the visitors looked in control in the first hour of this morning's session, South Africa were able to stay composed and add to their impressive run-rate.

The visitors will be hoping to grasp onto the first Test when they return to the field after Trent Boult dismissed Dean Edgar in the penultimate over of the session.
