Pakistan make strong start to second innings

An unbeaten second-wicket stand between Ahmed Shehzad and Azhar Ali takes Pakistan to within 48 runs of Sri Lanka at tea on day three of the second Test.

Pakistan batsmen Ahmed Shehzad and Azhar Ali have added a further 67 runs during the afternoon session of day three of the second Test match with Sri Lanka.

The tourists began their second innings 177 runs adrift of Sri Lanka, but after losing Mohammad Hafeez (8) during the early stages, Shehzad and Ali have combined to give their side hope of saving the match.

Resuming after lunch on 62-1, the duo batted conservatively, but effectively, throughout the middle session to take the score up to 129-1.

Shehzad reached tea on 69 off 153 balls, while Ali has faced 116 deliveries for his unbeaten knock of 47.
