Hafeez kicks on to century in Sharjah

Mohammad Hafeez brought up his century before tea on the first day of the third Test against New Zealand as Pakistan kicked on to 186-3 by the interval.

Hafeez made 47 in an opening session in which Pakistan lost Shan Masood, and accelerated during the afternoon to make hundreds in successive matches.

He brought up the landmark off only 130 balls and had hit 17 fours and two sixes by the time that he reached 123 unbeaten when the players left the field in Sharjah.

Azhar Ali (39) partnered him for 28 overs before becoming a second victim for Mark Craig, while recalled Kiwi spinner Daniel Vettori took his first Test wicket since 2012 by trapping Younis Khan lbw for five.

Captain Misbah-ul-Haq joined Hafeez at the crease and nudged his way to four not out.
