Asif loses match-fixing appeal

Former Pakistan bowler Mohammad Asif has lost his appeal over a match-fixing conviction.

The 30-year-old was jailed along with teammates Mohammad Amir and Salman Butt in November 2011 after being found guilty of bowling no-balls during a Test match against England at Lord's in 2010.

Asif, who is banned from playing cricket for five years, was released from prison in May 2012 having served half of his 12-month sentence.

It was ruled at the Court of Appeal in London on Wednesday that he did not have reasonable grounds to challenge his punishment.
