A productive third day at Old Trafford has left England 489 runs ahead of Pakistan with Alastair Cook and Joe Root back at the crease in the second innings.
The visitors started the day at 57-4, trailing by 532 runs, and it wasn't long until they found themselves two more wickets down. Shan Masood (39) was the first to fall from James Anderson's delivery, with Root catching at second slip. Stuart Broad then claimed the scalp of Asad Shafiq (4) after a brief rain delay.
Sarfraz Ahmed came on and contributed an impressive 26 from 18 balls - including five fours - but fell to Ben Stokes as lunch approached.
The ninth-wicket partnership of Misbah-ul-Haq and Wahab Riaz provided some respite, delivering the best stand of the innings (60) before the captain was caught by Moeen Ali just after passing his half-century.
Wahab's wicket soon followed as his attempt at a six instead found Alex Hales at deep midwicket, leaving Pakistan all out for 198 and trailing by 391.
Somewhat surprisingly, Cook decided not to enact the follow-on and took to the crease with Hales, the pair adding 11 to the total before rain showers brought forward tea.
Once play resumed, Hales (24) found himself dismissed by Mohammad Amir for the second time this Test as first-innings hero Root returned to the field.
The partnership that had already served well showed no signs of letting up as the end of play approached, with Cook's 49 off 53 and Root's 23 off 19 leaving the hosts 98-1 and with a seemingly insurmountable lead of 489 heading into day four.
