England secure a warm-up victory by defeating Australia by nine runs in Colombo ahead of their World Twenty20 campaign.

England have begun their World Twenty20 preparations with a victory, beating Australia by nine runs in their warm-up match of the tournament.

England, who will hope to defend their title when the competition gets underway, looked comfortable towards the closing stages of the match but Australia's Michael Hussey attempted to cause an upset at the crease.

The Aussie batsman, who racked up a 71, managed to hit three consecutive sixes but it was captain Stuart Broad who was able to stop Hussey for lbw to secure his side victory.

England begin the defence of their title against Afghanistan on Friday.
