Pakistan beat England by nine wickets

England slump to a nine-wicket defeat at the hands of Pakistan on the fourth day of the first Test at Lord's.

England have slumped to a nine-wicket defeat at the hands of Pakistan on day four of the first Test at Lord's.

Pakistan needed only 90 minutes to wrap up the victory following a batting collapse from England which left the tourists needing 64 to win.

Jos Buttler and Dom Bess had provided optimism on day three, but hopes of an unlikely recovery seemed to be ended just eight balls in when Buttler was trapped lbw.

England went on to lose four wickets for only six runs, leaving them all out for just 242 to give Pakistan the modest target of 64 to wrap up the opening Test.

James Anderson got England off to a good start by bowling Azhar Ali in the third over, but Haris Sohail and Imam ul-Haq shared a partnership of 54 to get Pakistan over the line.

Pakistan could now wrap up a first Test series win in England since 1996 when the second and final match gets underway at Headingley on Friday.
