England, Sri Lanka draw third Test as rain forces match to be abandoned

England, Sri Lanka draw third Test

England have taken the Test series against Sri Lanka 2-0 after the third match at Lord's was abandoned due to rain.

It was a frustrating day for the hosts as they needed 10 wickets to wrap up the Test and complete the contest with a 100% win record, but the weather had other ideas.

Play began at 1.20pm after the rain eased, with 81 overs to bowl, but Sri Lanka could only add a further 46 runs to their second-innings total before the Test was abandoned.

The tourists began the day on 32-0, needing 330 runs, but once they managed to get out onto the field, they were dealt a blow when Kaushal Silva was trapped lbw by James Anderson for 16.

Dimuth Karunaratne and Kusal Mendis contributed with 37 and 17 runs respectively before play was cancelled.
