Michael Yardy says that he would like to represent England at next year's Twenty20 World Cup in Sri Lanka following a battle with depression.

Michael Yardy has indicated that he would love to help England defend their Twenty20 crown following his battle with depression.

The 31-year-old, who has been receiving help for his illness, believes that he could perform for England again at next year's Twenty20 World Cup in Sri Lanka.

Yardy told The Mirror: "No-one can argue that I didn't perform well and to help win the last World Cup was one of the highlights of my career."

Sussex captain Yardy was a key member of the squad that claimed the Twenty20 title in the Caribbean in 2010 but admits that good form for his county will be vital if he wants to be considered by the national selectors.

"At the moment, though, it is in the back of my mind," he added. "I have to put in the performances for Sussex to justify selection, but yes, going to Sri Lanka in September to help us defend the trophy is something I would love to do."

The spin-bowler recently committed his future to Sussex by agreeing a two-year extension to his contract.
