England coach Peter Moores downplays possible Kevin Pietersen return

England coach Peter Moores pours cold water on suggestions that Kevin Pietersen is close to an international return.

England coach Peter Moores has cooled suggestions that Kevin Pietersen could make a return to the national side.

Incoming England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) chairman Colin Graves last week hinted that Pietersen could be in the frame for selection if he started playing English county cricket again.

Pietersen, 34, has since sought out a return to the domestic game, but Moores, who has fallen out with Pietersen in the past, does not believe that it will make any difference to his international aspirations.

ECB managing director Paul Downton has insisted on several occasions that Pietersen would not again be considered for selection.

"We're over here but it sounds like [Graves's quote] was taken out of context," PA quotes Moores as saying. "The policy on the KP situation has been made pretty clear by Paul."

Although Pietersen's chances of a return to the international fold look slim, England could reportedly be ready to recall Jonathan Trott to the Test side for the upcoming series against the West Indies.
