Gillespie has doubts over England job?

Jason Gillespie is reportedly having doubts about possibly taking over as England head coach due to concerns over the power that he will have with regards to team selection.

The Australian coach, who guided Yorkshire to County Championship glory last season, is favourite to be appointed by new director of England cricket Andrew Strauss following Peter Moores's dismissal.

However, according to The Guardian, Gillespie is concerned that he will not have much power in the role as the ECB's decisions to rule out a return for Kevin Pietersen and keep Alastair Cook as captain were made without input from a coach.

Strauss also confirmed on Tuesday that Joe Root has been promoted to Test vice-captain, another move taken without a coach's approval.

Despite Gillespie's doubts, the 40-year-old is reportedly open to holding talks with the ECB, but he is yet to be approached.
