Angus Fraser: 'Eoin Morgan back in Test frame'

Newly-appointed England selector Angus Fraser tips his Middlesex star Eoin Morgan to earn a recall to the Test match team following his withdrawal from the IPL.

Newly-appointed England selector Angus Fraser has tipped one-day star Eoin Morgan to play his way back into the England Test team.

Morgan withdrew from the Indian Premier League earlier this month to play County Championship cricket for Middlesex in a bid to improve his chances of an international recall in the longest format.

The Irishman has not played a Test in over two years, but on the back of the miserable tour to Australia in which he shone in the ODIs, he has been tipped as a potential replacement for Kevin Pietersen.

Morgan has been named Middlesex one-day captain for the upcoming season and has previously skippered England, and Fraser, his boss at Lord's, feels that the 27-year-old has an "excellent chance" of being in Alastair Cook's XI for the first Test of the British summer, against Sri Lanka in June.

"I think he's made the right decision in withdrawing from the IPL and coming to play some county cricket this summer. He's given himself an excellent chance of putting himself in the frame," Fraser told Sky Sports News.

"He's a very impressive young man, hence the reason why Middlesex and England have put him in leadership positions."

Morgan has scored 700 runs at an average of 30.43 in 16 Test matches since debuting in 2010.
