Alastair Cook refuses to accept series defeat

Alastair Cook believes that it is not "out of the question" for England to beat South Africa, despite trailing 1-0 in the Test series.

Alastair Cook has declared that England are ready to gain revenge against South Africa at Headingley this week.

Andrew Strauss's men have had over a week to recover from their innings defeat to the Proteas at the Kia Oval and Cook believes that the team are in the right frame of mind to level the series.

The opening batsman said: "It's not difficult to pick yourselves up after a loss like that, but it's clearly not a nice experience.

"But with what this England side has achieved over the last few years, we know we can beat South Africa and we have the players to do that, it's a different mentality.

"It would be an amazing achievement to beat a side like South Africa and it is certainly not out of the question."

Nottinghamsire's James Taylor has been selected in the squad for the match that begins on Thursday at Headingley.
