Alastair Cook has admitted that it is "hard to take" England's performance during their defeat to Sri Lanka in their sixth one-day international.
The tourists were beaten by 90 runs in Pallekele this morning, ending their hopes of winning the seven-match series.
The captain told BBC Sport: "For the first 20-odd overs we bowled really well, but it didn't help me dropping [Kumar] Sangakkara on 41 and then he made us pay for it.
"We'd built up quite a bit of pressure on them and then they went hard at us. We came here trying to make it 3-3, but we were outplayed in all departments and that's hard to take."
The final match of the series takes place in Colombo on Tuesday.
