Following a summer that saw Pietersen dropped from the Test squad for disciplinary reasons, Compton took advantage to book his spot on the plane to Asia.
However, Pietersen's return could prevent Compton from making his debut on the international stage.
"The chance to be with an England batsman of that calibre is fantastic," the Somerset batsman told The Sun. "I don't know what the coaches or the selectors are thinking.
"KP bats in the middle order so whether we're competing there as well I have no idea."
The first test begins on November 15 in Mumbai.
