Michael Carberry "gutted" to be dropped from England Test squad

Carberry "gutted" by England snub

Hampshire batsman Michael Carberry has expressed his disappointment at being snubbed by England ahead of the first Test against Sri Lanka next Thursday.

The 33-year-old played in all five of England's Ashes Tests in Australia during the winter, but failed to make the 12-man squad under head coach Peter Moores.

Carberry top-scored for Hampshire with 73 in yesterday's 22-run victory over Kent Spitfires in their T20 Blast match.

"I was pretty gutted, to be honest," Carberry told BBC Radio Solent. "I've taken a few knocks over time with my career, particularly where England is concerned.

"I'm bitterly disappointed because I felt I had a real good chance of continuing to play Test cricket and a home Test match. But it is what it is, I have to try and move on and make Hampshire my focus now."

The first Test will take place at Lord's.
