Gareth Batty admits to nerves on first Test appearance in 11 years

England bowler Gareth Batty admits to feeling nervous ahead of his return to the Test arena against Bangladesh.

England bowler Gareth Batty has admitted that he hopes to fully overcome his nerves as the first Test against Bangladesh progresses in Chittagong.

Batty is making his first appearance in the five-day format of the game in 11 years, and after ending the second day with figures of 1-51 from 17 overs, the veteran has acknowledged that he has felt a whole range of different emotions over the last 48 hours.

The 39-year-old told BBC Test Match Special: "Just sticking the shirt on itself is a huge honour so the nerves start jingling at that point, then you stick a new ball into the equation, then you have the boys at the top singing Jerusalem. If your emotions are not buzzing I would say you're probably not an Englishman.

"I'm a very passionate Englishman so that's what I've had to deal with - the nerves and the wanting to do well. Hopefully as the game progresses I'll get over that."

Bangladesh reached stumps at 221-5 in response to England's first-innings score of 293.
