James Anderson, Ben Stokes named in England squad for second Pakistan Test

James Anderson and Ben Stokes are named in a 14-man England squad for the second Test against Pakistan.

James Anderson and Ben Stokes have been named in a 14-man England squad for the second Test against Pakistan after missing the opener at Lord's.

Anderson has recovered from a shoulder stress fracture in time to bowl at Old Trafford as the team try to level up the series following last week's 75-run defeat.

All-rounder Stokes is back in the England Test fold for the first time since May after undergoing surgery on a knee problem, while leg-spinner Adil Rashid has been included eight months after last playing for the side in this format.

Toby Roland-Jones has dropped out of the squad, and there is a fitness doubt over Jake Ball after the seamer complained of tightness in his thigh during the first Test.

The second of the four-Test series will get underway on Friday.

England squad:

Alastair Cook (Essex) (Capt)
Moeen Ali (Worcestershire)
James Anderson (Lancashire)
Jonny Bairstow (Yorkshire)
Gary Ballance (Yorkshire)
Jake Ball (Nottinghamshire)
Stuart Broad (Nottinghamshire)
Steven Finn (Middlesex)
Alex Hales (Nottinghamshire)
Adil Rashid (Yorkshire)
Joe Root (Yorkshire)
Ben Stokes (Durham)
James Vince (Hampshire)
Chris Woakes (Warwickshire)
