Anderson named cricketer of the year

James Anderson has been named England's cricketer of the year for 2011-2012.

The swing bowler claimed the prize ahead of fellow paceman Stuart Broad and opening batsman Alastair Cook.

Anderson has lead the bowling attack throughout the year and climbed to fifth in England's all-time wicket-taking list following an excellent winter tour of the sub continent.

On receiving the award, he said: "I am flattered to win this award and would like to thank everyone who voted for me.

"I have been pleased with my performances over the last year and was delighted with the way I bowled on the recent tour of Sri Lanka - but I take even greater pleasure from being part of such a successful England team."

Nottinghamshire seamer Broad did not leave empty handed however, as he was presented with the 'Fans' Moment of the Year' award for his hat-trick against India at Trent Bridge last summer.
