England bowler James Anderson believes that the first Test against New Zealand is "in the balance" following the second day of play at Lord's.

England bowler James Anderson has claimed that the first Test against New Zealand is "in the balance" following day two at Lord's.

The hosts were bowled out for a modest score of 232 on Friday before the visitors ended the evening session 79 runs behind on 153-4.

The day was a special one for Anderson, who became only the fourth Englishman to take 300 Test wickets as he ended with figures of 3-32.

"It's in the balance, but I'd say they just have the edge," he told BBC Sport. "We didn't build on yesterday as well as we would have wanted.

"We started well with the ball but let it slip. They counter-attacked very well and we have a lot of hard work to do to keep us in the game."

Anderson made his Test debut for England against Zimbabwe in 2003.
