Compton bowled out for nine

England batsman Nick Compton has failed to launch an impressive run rate on his Test debut against India after getting bowled out for nine.

The 29-year-old, who was the first to go in the visitors' innings after India declared on 521-8, started off well with captain Alastair Cook at the crease but his term with the bat was short-lived.

Ravichandran Ashwin clinched the first wicket for the home side by crashing the middle stump with his throw and putting England under pressure in the early stages of their innings.

Minutes later, England were in trouble once again by losing two more wickets in quick succession as Gautam Gambhir caught out James Anderson after just two runs, while Jonathan Trott was bowled out for a duck after his shot, which was hit off the inside edge, fell into the hands of Cheteshwar Pujara.
