Fletcher: 'Ashes win was greatest achievement'

Former England coach Duncan Fletcher has declared that beating Australia in the 2005 Ashes series is the greatest achievement of his career.

The Three Lions had not beaten the Baggy Greens in the series for 26 years and Ricky Ponting's men were the number one ranked team in the world ahead of their clash.

However, Fletcher's side prevailed to clinch the series 2-1 and wrestle back the urn from the Aussies in one of the most entertaining Ashes contests in history.

"Beating that Australian team, who were probably the best team to ever play cricket, has got to be the biggest achievement," Fletcher told The Telegraph.

"It was phenomenal, not just to beat them but the way we played in beating them. We should have won at Old Trafford too [the third Test was drawn], where we totally outplayed them."

Fletcher left his role as England coach in 2007.
