Alastair Cook gets Chris Robshaw backing

Chris Robshaw believes that Alastair Cook will emerge a stronger man from the recent Ashes whitewash to Australia.

England rugby union captain Chris Robshaw has backed Alastair Cook to emerge stronger from Ashes disappointment.

The 29-year-old Three Lions skipper has come under pressure because of the 5-0 series whitewash his side suffered against Australia Down Under.

"I very much empathise with what Alastair's going through," The Mirror quotes Robshaw as saying. "I know exactly what it's like and it's not nice. When you're in the eye of the storm it can be a pretty lonely place.

"You need your friends, family and loved ones to get you through. It's a tough time, I'd be lying if I said it wasn't and Alastair is unfortunately experiencing that side of it at the moment.

"But you get through it, you learn to deal better with the pressure and the scrutiny and you emerge stronger for the experience."

England will take on Australia in the first one-day international on Sunday.
