Day three abandoned in Sydney

Rain in Sydney sees play on day three of the third Test between Australia and West Indies abandoned without a ball being bowled.

The wet conditions meant that no play was possible on day three of the third Test between Australia and the West Indies in Sydney.

On day two persistent rain ensured that only 11.4 overs were completed, during which time Aussie bowler Nathan Lyon claimed the wicket of Kraigg Brathwaite for 85 to leave the tourists 248-7.

However, more rain earlier today meant that the Australian bowling attack were unable to make any further inroads on the West Indian tail.

Having inspected the pitch two hours before the scheduled close of play, umpires Ian Gould and Chris Gaffaney decided to abandon play.

More rain is expected tomorrow, which will only serve to heighten the likelihood of the contest ending in a draw.
