Australia set Pakistan 256 to win first one-day international

Australia set Pakistan 256 to win the first ODI between the teams in Sharjah.

A century from Steve Smith has guided Australia to 255-8 in their first one-day international against Pakistan in Sharjah.

After winning the toss and putting themselves in to bat, the Aussies got off to a disastrous start at the crease when Aaron Finch was dismissed with the first ball of the match by Mohammad Irfan.

However, David Warner (43) and Smith (101) then helped the tourists to recover before they were both bowled by Shahid Afridi.

Australia struggled for runs after that, though Glenn Maxwell (21), Brad Haddin (23 not out) and Mitchell Johnson (21) helped to push their score up with modest knocks out in the middle.

Afridi did most of the damage with the ball for Pakistan thanks to figures of 3-46, while Wahab Riaz finished with two wickets to his name.
