Shane Watson insists that he flew home to Australia "solely" to be with his pregnant wife following his axe from the third Test against India.

Australia vice-captain Shane Watson has insisted that he only flew back home in order to be with his pregnant wife.

The all-rounder left his side's tour of India after he was dropped from the third Test due to his failure to provide reasons as to why the Aussies have struggled in the series, of which they are 2-0 down.

"The reason I have come home is wholly and solely to be with my wife and the baby," Watson told Sky Sports News.

"I left it with my wife that we would not talk about the baby before the next Test match. But after what happened, she told me things had stepped up and that is the reason I came home."

Mitchell Johnson, Usman Khawaja and James Pattinson were also axed for a breach of discipline.
