David Warner "proud" of Sean Abbott after bowler recorded career-best figures

David Warner pays tribute to "good mate" Sean Abbott after the bowler took a career-best 6-14 in his first match since his bouncer resulted in Phil Hughes's death.

Australia batsman David Warner has praised Sean Abbott for returning to action in strong form following the death of Phil Hughes.

Abbott's short-pitched delivery struck the neck of Hughes last month during a Sheffield Shield match at the Sydney Cricket Ground, and the 25-year-old passed away two days later.

In his first match since the tragedy, Abbott took a career-best 6-14 for New South Wales over Queensland at the same ground where Hughes was hit.

Warner, who is currently competing in Australia's Test series against India, paid tribute to the bowler on Instagram with the message: "Credit to my good mate @sean_abbott bowling NSW to victory against QLD today. Been a tough week for everyone but this bloke has a genuine heart of gold and has fought hard this week to come back and bowl again. Well done mate proud of you."
