Australia's David Warner bows out of series with broken thumb

Cricket Australia confirms that David Warner will be out for between four and six weeks after breaking his thumb.

Australia opener David Warner has bowed out of his team's one-day series with England after breaking his thumb.

Warner retired in the second one-day international after being struck by a short ball from Steven Finn.

Cricket Australia has since confirmed that the player's thumb was fractured and has opted to send him home.

"David Warner has a fracture in his left thumb, expected to be out for four-to-six weeks. Replacement to be named in due course," said the governing body in a statement on Twitter.

Warner will fly back to Australia on Monday.
