Shaun Marsh called into Australia Test squad amid doubts over Michael Clarke

Cricket Australia add batsman Shaun Marsh to the squad for next week's first Test against India amid doubts over the fitness of captain Michael Clarke.

Cricket Australia have called Western Australia batsman Shaun Marsh into the Test squad for the rearranged series against India, which begins on December 9.

The opening Test was due to be held in Brisbane today, but has now been scheduled to take place in Adelaide next week following the tragic death of Australia batsman Phil Hughes.

The 25-year-old died in a Sydney hospital last Thursday, just two days after getting struck in the neck by a bouncer bowled by Sean Abbott during a Sheffield Shield match.

While CA have stated that their cricketers will be allowed to opt out of the upcoming series as they continue to grieve, it is understood that captain Michael Clarke is a fitness doubt for the opening Test.

A statement from CA said: "The National Selection Panel has today advised that West Australian Shaun Marsh has been added to the Test squad as an additional batsman for the first Commonwealth Bank Test.

"The Australian Test squad will assemble in Adelaide today and tomorrow ahead of the first Test starting on Tuesday, December 9."

Clarke has been recovering from a hamstring injury, but put his treatment on hold following the fatal head injury suffered by Hughes at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
