Former Australia bowler Jeff Thomson believes that going into the Ashes series as underdogs will suit Michael Clarke's side.

Former Australia bowler Jeff Thomson feels that the tag of "underdogs" suits Michael Clarke's side going into the Ashes series.

England are overwhelming favourites to retain the urn in the five-match Test series but Thomson believes that will play into the hands of the Baggy Greens.

Thomson told Sky Sports News: "I am nervous about this series but the sunshine is coming out now ahead of the first Test and I think our guys will do much better with a bit of warmth around.

"We are struggling and are the underdogs - people are saying England might win 3-1 or 4-1 - but that is good for us."

The first Test at Trent Bridge begins on July 10.
