Ed Cowan will make his Test debut for Australia during the Boxing Day match against India.
The 29-year-old has scored four centuries in his last four outings with his club side Tasmania.
Pace-bowler Ben Hilfenhaus and batsman Shaun Marsh have also been named in the Wallabies' starting lineup.
The first Test will take place at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
