Darren Lehmann: 'Cricket World Cup lasts too long'

Darren Lehmann calls on the Cricket World Cup organisers to reduce the current seven-week time frame of the tournament.

Australia coach Darren Lehmann believes that the Cricket World Cup should be shortened from its current seven-week format in future tournaments.

Having defeated England by 111 runs in their opening game of the event, the Baggy Greens have been forced to wait a full seven days ahead of their next match on Saturday.

They must then wait another week before facing fellow co-hosts New Zealand in Auckland, which has led to some concerns from Lehmann.

"I think we can condense the tournament a little bit to be honest," he is quoted as saying by the London Evening Standard. "A week in between is a long time."

A total of 42 games are played in the group stage, prior to the knockout rounds getting underway.
