Michael Clarke delighted with Australia's record Cricket World Cup total

Australia captain Michael Clarke has expressed his delight after his side recorded the highest ever batting score at a Cricket World Cup in today's 275-run win over Afghanistan.

The co-hosts racked up a score of 417-6 from their 50 overs as David Warner led from the front with 178 runs off 133 balls before Glenn Maxwell bashed 88 off just 39 balls.

Australia now have two wins to their name after following an opening-day victory over England, with their second game washed out against Bangladesh and losing to other host nation New Zealand.

"It's nice to turn our form around after New Zealand," Clarke said after today's win in Perth.

"Especially with the bat I thought the boys played really well to make 400 - the highest World Cup score ever - that's very satisfying and really pleasing after the way we batted against New Zealand and obviously we had some outstanding individual performances."

Australia now sit third in Pool A on five points behind New Zealand (8) and Sri Lanka (6).
