Michael Clarke has described Australia's batting as "extremely poor" following the team's defeat to New Zealand at the Cricket World Cup earlier.
The clash between the two host nations resulted in a narrow one-wicket win for the Black Caps, after Australia had been bowled out for 151.
The captain told BBC Sport: "Our batting was extremely poor, credit has to go to New Zealand for the way they bowled but our shot selection wasn't great.
"Mitchell Starc was outstanding for us and the New Zealand bowlers bowled really well. It was tough for our bowlers but credit to them, they found a way.
"I don't like losing and there are some areas we've got to improve, but thankfully we've got time in this tournament to improve."
The defeat leaves Australia fourth in the Pool A standings.
