Michael Clarke won the toss and elected to bat, but the tourists have done well to restrict the Aussies to 46-1.

Play has been stop-start as three times the umpires have brought the players off the field due to rain.

Stuart Broad made the breakthrough to get rid of David Warner (29), tempting the Aussie opener to slice a cut into the awaiting hands of Michael Carberry at point.

Chris Rogers (7) and Shane Watson (10) will resume at the crease after lunch is taken.
