Vijender Singh downs Terrell Gausha

India's Vijender Singh compounds miserable a couple of days in the Olympic boxing with a one-point victory over Terrell Gausha.

Indian middleweight Vijender Singh has beaten Terrell Gausha of the United States by one point to book his place in the quarter-finals.

Gausha made a terrific start, connecting with a couple of great shots as he came out of the blocks fast.

However, Vijender came on stronger towards the end of the round, which the judges scored 4-3 in his favour.

The American altered his approach in the second and was now biding his time, but could not really get into range in the early sparring.

The action became frenetic midway through the stanza, with both men trading in the centre of the ring as Vijender perhaps came off worse.

The Indian still held a one-point advantage heading into the last, which was very nip and tuck.

In the end, the judges felt that Vijender had just done enough to secure a 16-15 victory.
