Mehdi Toloutibandpi books last-16 berth

Iran's Mehdi Toloutibandpi has powered to a 16-12 victory over Spain's Jonathan Alonso Flete in the Olympic light-welterweight class.

The fight started slowly but Toloutibandpi injected some much-needed aggression to edge the opening round 4-3.

Alonso was very busy but the cleaner work came from the Iranian, whose power punches impressed the judges enough to extend his lead by a further point.

The final round played out in much the same fashion as Toloutibandpi wrapped up a four-point triumph.
