Michael Conlan "over the moon" with victory

Northern Ireland boxer Michael Conlan reveals his delight after advancing into the quarter-finals of the Commonwealth Games.

Northern Ireland boxer Michael Conlan has said that he was "over the moon" to come through his last-16 clash with Shiva Thapa at the Commonwealth Games.

Bantamweight Conlan, who is one of the favourites for gold this summer, beat Thapa on points on Monday to book his spot in the quarter-finals of the competition.

"I am over the moon. It knew it was going to be a tough fight, world number two against world number three and I was quite nervous today. I knew it was going to be a tough fight," he told Sports Mole immediately after the bout.

"He came in with a different type of tactic from what I thought he would use. He tried to come in a bit rougher, which didn't really work for him and works well for me. He was quite dirty and I am just happy to get the win."

Conlan could meet defending champion Sean McGoldrick in the semi-finals.
