Dillian Whyte in line to fight for British heavyweight title

The British Boxing Board of Control makes Dillian Whyte the next challenger for the British title, which is currently held by Tyson Fury.

The British Boxing Board of Control has called on the promotional teams of Tyson Fury and Dillian Whyte to lodge purse bids for a British title fight later in the summer.

Fury possesses the belt after defeating Dereck Chisora in November, but the 26-year-old could vacate the strap with negotiations currently taking place regarding a world title encounter against Wladimir Klitschko.

That would leave Whyte to take on another opponent, creating the possibility of a showdown with Anthony Joshua after promoter Eddie Hearn revealed plans for the Olympic gold medallist to feature in a high-profile domestic fight at the O2 Arena in London on September 12.

Whyte secured a win over Joshua at amateur level and a fight in the paid ranks has been suggested since Whyte made his return from a two-year suspension for failing a drugs test.
