Mike Tyson to make promoter debut next month

Mike Tyson will make his debut as a boxing promoter at an event in New York next month.

The former heavyweight champion will launch his Iron Mike Promotions brand as part of ESPN's Friday Night Fights season on August 23.

Dominican super-featherweight Argenis Mendez will make the first defence of his IBF title against Canadian Arash Usmanee at the top of the bill.

The undercard will see Claudio Marrero take on Jesus Andreas Cuellar at featherweight level.

"We are thrilled to be finishing off the 'Friday Night Fights' season with Mike Tyson's first-ever fight card as a promoter," said ESPN senior director of programming and acquisitions Brian Kweder.

"The quality of the card that he and his team have put together for boxing fans is fantastic."

ESPN expanded its Friday Night Fights season by an additional week to accommodate the Tyson event.
