Austin Trout says that Saul Alvarez was the "better man" in their super welterweight unification bout on Saturday.

Austin Trout admitted that Saul Alvarez was the "better man" after he was beaten in their super welterweight unification bout on Saturday evening.

Alvarez won the fight on points at Alamodome in Texas to retain his WBC title and take his opponent's WBA and Ring Magazine belts, and Trout felt that 'Canelo' deserved the victory.

"I've no excuses, he was quicker, he was stronger, he was the better man. He was better than me," BoxingScene.com quotes Trout as saying.

"I accept my defeat humbly and I promise I'll be back. I promise I'll go back to the drawing board and come back stronger. I was prepared for this fight but the better man won.

"He's a good fighter and he boxed a lot better than I thought. Not that I underestimated him, but he was a totally different fighter."

The red-haired Mexican extended his record to 42-0-1 with his victory over Trout.
