Smith brothers to defend British titles on same show

Paul, Stephen and Liam Smith will make more history by becoming the first trio of brothers to defend British titles on the same show at the Echo Arena on December 7.

All three Smith brothers have been signed to defend their British titles on the same Echo Arena card on December 7.

The show will also feature Paul Butler defending his British and Commonwealth super flyweight titles.

History was made when Liam Smith beat Erick Ochieng to win the British light middleweight title at the Olympia on Saturday, joining older brothers Paul and Stephen as a holder of a Lonsdale strap.

The trio will go into the records once again when they defend their titles on the same show, which will be made all the more special in front of the Liverpool public.

As yet, only Paul has an opponent - 23-year-old Luke Blackledge (13-1-2) from Accrington.

"It's incredible that we are all holding British titles at the same time, it's not something that we set out to do, but it's unbelievable that we are now all holding prestigious Lonsdale belts," Eurosport quotes the 30-year-old as saying.

"As the eldest brother I'm so proud of what Stephen and Liam have achieved. Personally, I'm proud to hold my British super middleweight title again."

Stephen knocked out Gary Buckland to win the super featherweight belt in August.
