Kalle Sauerland: 'George Groves, Chris Eubank Jr unlikely to be stadium bout'

Promoter Kalle Sauerland says that the showdown between WBA super-middleweight champion George Groves and Chris Eubank Jr is unlikely to take place in a stadium.

Promoter Kalle Sauerland has claimed that it will be "tricky" to stage the super-middleweight showdown between George Groves and Chris Eubank Jr in a football stadium.

Sauerland has previously suggested that Stamford Bridge, the Emirates Stadium and Craven Cottage were all in the running to host the highly-anticipated clash for Groves's WBA title.

However, while revealing that Manchester or London will stage the World Boxing Super Series semi-final, Sauerland has now acknowledged that an arena will likely stage the bout in February.

Sauerland told World Boxing News: "Eubank-Groves Manchester or London, [Callum] Smith-[Jurgen] Braehmer likely for Berlin. I can't see that both semis will be in the north of England if one's in Manchester. There's the football stadium idea but it's really tricky in the season.

"I think certain people will moan and groan, people will be excited about it but ultimately everyone will still go. It's one of those ones."

The Manchester Arena appears to be the most likely option, with London's O2 Arena already staging a Matchroom Sport event on February 3.
