Abel Sanchez dismisses Gennady Golovkin illness rumours

Coach Abel Sanchez dismisses suggestions that unified world middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin is ill ahead of his fight with Kell Brook on Saturday night.

Coach Abel Sanchez has insisted that Gennady Golovkin is in "fight mode", despite suggestions that he had been feeling ill ahead of his clash with Kell Brook.

Golovkin refused interviews with the media on both Thursday and Friday, with rumours soon starting to circulate that the unified world middleweight champion was feeling less than 100% ahead of the highly-anticipated showdown.

However, Sanchez has attempted to quash speculation that his fighter is under the weather by claiming that the Kazakh is just focusing on his clash with Brook, who is stepping up two weight divisions to face arguably the world's best pound-for-pound fighter.

Sanchez told Sky Sports News: "Absolutely no truth. He's just in fight mode. He's focused and ready to do what he's got to do.

"He's not in a hostile environment but it's an environment in which he's the bad guy because Kell is from here. He just wants to get to work and he's looking forward to tomorrow and putting on a show."

Sanchez was speaking after Brook had weighed in heavier than Golovkin on Friday.
