Freddie Roach: 'Manny Pacquiao must retire if he loses'

Roach issues warning to Pacquiao

Freddie Roach has insisted that Manny Pacquiao should retire from boxing if he loses to Brandon Rios in November.

Despite being rated as one of the best fighters in the world, two defeats in the past year have seen Pacquiao's career stall and Roach believes that another loss could spell the end for the 34-year-old.

"If he loses, I will tell him to retire," Roach told ESPN. "If you lose three in a row, it's your time.

"He's up there in age. I've got to keep a close eye on him. It's part of my job to protect him. I will do the right thing."

Pacquiao's two most recent defeats have been against Timothy Bradley and Juan Manuel Marquez.
