Pacquiao: 'Facing Mayweather will be historic'

Manny Pacquiao has said that it will be a "historic fight" when he takes on Floyd Mayweather Jr in their welterweight unification bout in Las Vegas in May.

The WBO champion had been linked with a fight with the undefeated WBC and WBA title-holder for years, but the duo finally announced that they had agreed a deal earlier this year.

The 36-year-old told BBC Sport: "This one is one of the most important fights of my career and in boxing history. It's going to be a good fight and historic fight.

"I'm sure millions in the Philippines are excited for this fight and want to see it live but can't. It's very important to win to prove who is the number one pound-for-pound in the world and to prove I am still the number one."

Pacquiao will head into the fight with a 57-5-2 record.
