Olympic silver medallist John Joe Nevin decides to remain an amateur boxer despite agreeing terms with Amir Khan's Super Fight Promotions.

John Joe Nevin has rejected the opportunity to sign with Amir Khan's Super Fight Promotions and will now remain an amateur.

The 23-year-old, who won a silver medal at the Olympic Games in London, was reportedly ready to join the company after agreeing terms but has changed his decision, much to Khan's dismay.

Khan said: "It's disappointing that John Joe will be staying amateur as I firmly believe that he has the potential to make big waves in the professional scene.

"Nevertheless, I respect his decision to represent the British Lionhearts in the World Series of Boxing and do not rule out the possibility of working with him in the future."

Nevin was defeated by Team GB's Luke Campbell in the summer.
